Matt Mills was born on November 14, 1996 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He began racing go-karts at 12 years old before moving up to a full-size pavement modified in 2012. He won the 2012 Midvale Speedway Rookie of the Year and transitioned into late models the following season.
Mills made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Bristol Motor Speedway in August 2016. The following year he made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Phoenix Raceway. Fast forward to 2021, Mills made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Kansas Speedway.
A journeyman much of his career, Mills received the opportunity of a lifetime in 2023. He was tapped to pilot the No. 51 Chevrolet Silverado in two races for Kyle Busch Motorsports, owned by 2-time NASCAR Cup Series Championship Driver, Kyle Busch. He took advantage of the opportunity, qualifying 5th, scoring stage points in both stages and finishing 5th at Richmond Raceway in July 2023.
That performance received attention from several race teams including Niece
Motorsports. Niece’s superstar driver Carson Hocevar was recently signed by a race-winning NASCAR Cup Series organization and they needed to fill the seat of the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado for the 2024 NCTS Season.
In October of 2023, Niece Motorsports announced Matt Mills as the driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado for the 2024 NCTS season. He steps into a full-time race winning opportunity for the first time in his career beginning at Daytona in February 2024.
